Transfer your knowledge or information: The interfaces July 9, 2007
Posted by nbeyond in : Out there?, science, tips , trackbackRecently I had to search for apartments in a brand new city that I am moving to in Germany. Surely I had to sort out apparently good towns, make a list of good apartments in the good towns, and arrange the appointments to take a look. Using the Internet, I could do these things very efficiently at the cost of reasonable time.
Finally with the list, I had to be many places physically in the city. This means that I started to be exposed to physical constraints. Visiting new places that you know little is tricky. This is quite true from the difference between the time spent to reach the destination city from your home and the time spent to reach the destination from the destination city. I have normally wasted very much time in driving and finding the destination in the destination city. Reading a map, asking a road and driving accordingly is always difficult. If you have any accompany, it is very easy for you to argue with him or her about the mistakes that you just make in directions. I am not an exception and so sick and tired of this way of finding the places.
Naturally, I have thought to solve this chronic problem with help of the technology. Yes, I bought a navigation system. After setting the device customized for my taste, driving the places that I have never driven is no problem at all. I always feel comfortable and confident with her (The navigation system), because I know somebody (satellites) up there in the sky keeps watching me and guiding. Even though I often make wrong turns, she never complains. She quickly recalculates alternative routes and tells me in a gentle voice. Yes, this is the technology that solves my chronic problem.
After several months with her on the road and successful search for the apartments in the new city, I happened to see me getting used to this modernized way of driving while I seldomly use my own sense of locating the current position on the imaginary map in my brain. In fact, I am just waiting for her to tell me such that “Turn right. Bear right. Get on the free way.”, etc.
Of course, the number of wrong turns has dropped significantly. But I found out that I am losing my own classical sense of spotting a location and slowly dependent on this voice interface of the device. All I have to do is just to listen her directions not knowing complicated communication from the device to several satellites or vice versa to spot the location on detailed electrical maps.
Yes, the expert knowledge successfully being transfered to the dumber driver like me through the voice interface.
Now, this is the nbeyond part. I become my heart. I am my heart now. Heart can not see, listen, smell, taste, and feel as I do these five senses continuously every day. Instead, my heart keeps getting via the different interfaces customized signals transfered from which my eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body receive in a relatively original way. No doubt that my heart works right for the customized signals coming from outside of my body. I become my heart more seriously.
Does my heart feel uncomfortable because it does not take the original signals directly?
My answer is NO to that.
Yes, this is the power of the interfaces bridging the knowledge or information from one group to another even if the two groups can not communicate because they are too different, or even hate each other. But, don’t forget that communication is made well through the interface. Hope this blog makes a bit similar to the interface way of communication with a wide range of readers out there.
